The third and final game in the critically-acclaimed “Batman: Arkham” series will not release to computers running OS X or Linux as intended.

Warner Bros, the publisher for Rocksteady’s “Batman: Arkham Knight,” has officially canceled those two ports of the game, acknowledging the move in a brief post on Steam.

“We are very sorry to confirm that ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ will no longer be coming to Mac and Linux,” Warner said. “If you have pre-ordered Batman: Arkham Knight for Mac or Linux, please apply for a refund via Steam.”

This is disappointing news, but it's not terribly surprising. Last year’s release of “Batman: Arkham Knight” for PC was a total disaster— it was so riddled with issues that Warner had to pull the game for sale, fixing some major underlying issues before reinstating the game in the Steam store.

Even with those changes, Eurogamer ran tests on “Arkham Knight” for PC and found that the patches hardly helped the major underlying issues that affected performance and gameplay.

But now that the “Arkham Knight” ports for Linux and Mac are officially canned, customers are sharing their thoughts on Steam’s forums — and they’re not very positive.

We’ve reached out to Warner and Rocksteady to learn more about why the Mac and Linux ports for “Arkham Knight” were canceled. We’ll update the story if we hear back.

If you were hoping for a Mac or Linux port of "Arkham Knight," you can still play the full version of the game, as well as its downloadable content, on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
