Fans tell us what they honestly think of Ben Affleck as the new Batman

This toy gives a huge hint about a plot line in 'Batman v Superman'

If you've watched the trailers for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," there are a few parts which don't really make much sense in context with the rest of the trailer.

Two minutes into the San Diego Comic-Con trailer you see a short sequence featuring Superman with a military personnel kneeling in his presence. Their uniforms are branded with the Man of Steel's logo.

superman miliary

Not only does it make Superman look like he's gone off the rails, but it makes him appear as if he's possibly evil, leading a militarized group of soldiers. The scene is matched to a voiceover which says, "He has the power to wipe out the entire human race." It pretty much goes against everything Superman stands for.

Later in the trailer we see a rugged Batman in what looks like a post-apocalyptic desert setting fighting off the Superman militia.

What's going on?

These are most likely nothing more than dream sequences.

Superman hasn't turned evil and Batman has clearly just been watching one too many "Mad Max" movies.

While at New York Comic Con, I came across a toy version of Ben Affleck's Batman in the same attire.

knightmare batmanI was stunned when I saw the name of the toy.

knightmare batman v superman

Knightmare Batman.

The nightmare name has come up a few times in the DC Universe. It's the name of a difficulty level in "Batman: Arkham Knight." Nightmare Batman is also an iteration of the Dark Knight in an alternate universe where Batman's a vampire (yeah, it's weird).

Knightmare Batman sounds like a clever take on the "Dark Knight" mashed together with nightmare.

A logical explanation is that this is a nightmare scenario Bruce Wayne has about Superman.

We know from watching the "Batman v Superman" trailers that Batman has a grudge against Supes for destroying one of his buildings at the end of "Man of Steel."

From the trailers, it looks like we'll see the same events unfold from Wayne's perspective.

Affleck is playing a retired Batman in "Batman v Superman."

After the destruction of the Wayne Financial tower, he's most likely convinced to put on the cape and cowl once more to take down this dangerous looking guy by the name of Superman.

batman bruce wayne batman superman

While viewers know Superman is no real threat, Wayne probably isn't aware of that and considers the worst-case scenario of what may occur if Superman is allowed to continue to roam free without any consequences. After the 9/11-like disaster we saw at the end of "Man of Steel," it's only natural for an outsider to consider it's a matter of time until he'll cause more death and destruction.

The worst case scenario is what we're seeing in the trailers.

The below is most likely nothing but a nightmare of Bruce Wayne's.

We still have a while to go before we see how the film plays out on screen.

"Batman v Superman" will be in theaters March 25, 2016.

batman supermanWarning: There are potential spoilers ahead for the future of the DC movie universe.

Fans may be extremely excited for next year's "Batman v Superman," but there's one Batman story fans would probably love to see on the big screen and it looks like we may just get it.

According to JoBlo.com, we could see the Joker and a version of Robin in the next solo Batman film.

For Batfans, that should sound off some immediate bells.

Last chance before spoilers.

Over the years, Batman has had numerous sidekicks fill in for the role of Robin.

In the iconic 1988 "Batman: A Death in the Family," the Joker is notoriously responsible for the death of the Dark Knight's second Robin, Jason Todd. It's a death which plagues the Caped Crusader for years afterward.

batman a death in the family

However, the story doesn't end there.

Year's later, Todd is resurrected and becomes the antihero Red Hood. This time around, Todd doesn't play by Batman's rules and isn't afraid to use gunfire to bring down criminals. Unsurprisingly, he also has a bit of a grudge against Bats and goes after the Dark Knight for never avenging his death.

According to the site, Warner Bros. is looking to adapt the "Death in the Family" series along with the "Red Hood" comics.

JoBlo suggests that Red Hood would be DC's version of Marvel's Winter Soldier a sidekick who has gone to the dark side and needs a shot at redemption.

If the story sounds familiar, it's been adapted before.

In 2010, Warner Bros. released a direct-to-video animated picture titled "Batman: Under the Red Hood" which delivered a gritty look at the "Death in the Family" storyline.

The recent "Batman: Arkham Knight" game dealt directly with Jason Todd/Red Hood as well.

JoBlo reports we may also see cameos from Red Hood in "Batman v Superman" or "Suicide Squad."

How Batman writer Scott Snyder decided Jim Gordon should be the new Dark Knight

If you've been keeping up with the latest Batman comics, then you'll know Bruce Wayne is no longer Batman (for the moment).

Starting in "Batman" #41, Commissioner James Gordon has taken on the mantle of the bat after Wayne was left for dead in a brawl with the Joker.

jim gordon batman

Some might have been surprised by the choice of Gordon to replace Wayne, but he was always the first pick.

"When I knew Bruce was going to go off the table with 'Endgame,' I was thinking about who could replace him, and there was never, I mean, the most interesting to me was somebody who is almost a real-world character stepping into the role of a mythological one,""Batman" series writer Scott Snyder told Tech Insider recently at New York Comic Con.

batman issue 40

Snyder said the idea to turn Gordon into the iconic Dark Knight came to him last summer.

"If somebody tapped you on the shoulder, as somebody who cares about New York City let’s say, or Gotham City, [and says] I want you to be Batman. That story was really interesting to me. And so Jim was always the person," he continued. "It was kind of organically built around him as a character."

Artist Greg Capullo gave the commissioner a boxer's build knowing Gordon could never match Wayne's domineering physique, and given the character's military background as a former marine, he took away his iconic mustache and gave him a Mohawk.

jim gordon batman

Capullo told Tech Insider having Gordon step in was the natural progression for Batman. Since the two have always had a working relationship, this finally allows Gordon to know what it’s like to have walked a mile in Batman’s boots.

"What I’m really looking forward to is how this affects Gordon’s and Batman’s relationship after this," said Capullo.

This isn't the first time someone else has taken on Batman's role in the comic series. We've seen some of the Dark Knight's allies ranging from former Robins Dick Grayson and Jason Todd to Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael fill in for Batman.

However, transforming the police officer into a crime fighter was a bigger risk than a fellow crime-fighting superhero sidekick. How would the fans react to it?

"Scott said to me, he goes, ‘Listen, I really wanted to say I’m sorry if this is really is the one that sinks our ship," said Capullo. "He’s apologized to me a few times ahead of the curve."

jim gordon batmanjim gordon as batman

"He [Snyder] was worried about it," continued Capullo. "I think the important thing was I said to him, ‘Listen, it’s a great story. It’s the natural thing that has to happen after what we’ve done here in ‘Endgame.' Once we get rolling, and show them what it’s all about, they’ll come aboard.’ It turned out I was right once again."

Reactions wereextremely positive.

"It’s important to let the fans know we love the character as much as they do. Nothing we do is meant to sort of trash the character or do something silly or sensational just for sales," said Snyder. "And we never would have done this if we didn’t have a really good story for you guys and we didn’t have a place we were going with this character that we think you’re going to love. Now, the funny thing is, the story has actually gone over well enough that the response is more like, ‘Sorry I didn’t believe in it.’"

The next installment of "Batman," issue #46, is available November 11.

Here’s the crazy stunt that launched the career of Daniel Craig’s stunt double

Bobby Holland Hanton is a stunt double for Daniel Craig, Chris Hemsworth, and Channing Tatum, among others. Hanton was recently in New York City promoting Dove Men+Care.

He's done some crazy things in his lifetime, but Hanton told INSIDER about his craziest stunt to date — the one that launched his career.

The first stunt Hanton ever performed was for a scene in the Bond movie "Quantum of Solace," in which Bond jumps from one balcony to another.

The stunt was filmed in Panama at 2am, and Hanton did the jump without any wires, and without any safety below. It was a risky move, but Hanton says it was his make-or-break moment, and his chance to prove that he was capable of performing high-level stunts.

Clearly, the risk paid off.

The people behind the excellent 'Walking Dead' games are making a Batman game

$

A new Batman game is coming in 2016, from the same studio that developed the excellent "The Walking Dead" games.

There's no name for the game just yet, but it does have a very teasy teaser trailer — it was shown tonight during The Game Awards, an annual award show in Los Angeles.

Batman, Telltale Games

The stuff Telltale Games makes is heavy on story over gameplay. They play out more like interactive fiction than most games, focusing on choosing a story path and crafting narrative over carefully timed button presses.

It looks like this Batman game will focus more on the story of Bruce Wayne, pre-Batman, rather than the darker Batman we've seen in the Christopher Nolan films. Here's Telltale Games co-founder and CEO teasing the new game:

This iteration of Batman will give fans a first-hand opportunity to dive deeper into the complex life and mind of Bruce Wayne, the duality of his own identity, and the struggle of responsibility in saving a city overcome with corruption and villainy.

Telltale Games is familiar with big licenses like Batman.

The Walking Dead

The studio has worked with a ton of heavy-hitters: "Back to the Future,"" Game of Thrones,""Minecraft," and many other major franchises. Games come out in episodes, and are collected in seasons for release as a package. The decisions you make in the first episode factor into the story that plays out in the final episode, so make sure to choose all the combat training early on when this new Batman game arrives in 2016.

Telltale Games' Batman game is headed to "home consoles, PC/Mac, and mobile devices," and knowing Telltale Games, that means "it'll be on anything that'll run it."

NOW WATCH: Neil deGrasse Tyson explains how Batman can really beat Superman

Fans are going crazy for this 'Batman v Superman' trailer that doesn't give away huge spoilers

$

Warner Bros. debuted a new "Batman v Superman" trailer Wednesday night and while it showed off a lot of new footage, it left a lot of fans upset.

Many took a big issue with the trailer claiming it gave away too much of the film by showing off unnecessary spoilers like villain Doomsday.

In response to fans' dismay, YouTube user Kevin O'Fee edited down the original trailer, making it about a minute shorter cutting out most of the spoilers seen in the trailer. (Doomsday, and a hint at another sinister villain are all missing.)

Released Thursday, the trailer has now been seen over 400,000 times.

Check it out:

Reactions have been extremely positive with many pointing out trailers should focus more on teasing, not delivering spoilers.

batman v superman fan edit reactionbatman v superman fan edit reaction

Why do fans love this trailer more?

The trailer really doesn't change too much. Instead, it focuses on the idea that less is more.

The biggest change is that the entire final minute of the original trailer, which showed off new villain Doomsday, is gone.

doomsday batman v superman

Those thinking they were going in for a film solely focused on two superheroes battling it out finally realized Batman and Superman's squabble may not be the main event of the film.

O'Fee's edited version of the trailer keeps the Batman vs. Superman premise in tact, and only hints at another threat at the end of the trailer. Instead of showing off Doomsday, he focuses on Luthor being up to no good and running a wild experiment.

lex luthorfrankenstein batman v superman

Then the trailer fades to black and we hear Doomsday's roar. That's it. No image, laser beams, or anything else.

Fan reactions to the new "Batman v Superman" trailer bring a larger question to light — how much is too much to give away in a trailer?

Typically, we'll receive huge 2:30 minute trailers for upcoming blockbusters which often end up revealing a lot more than fans may want to see. A trailer for "Star Trek Into Darkness"showed off Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan before it was announced he was playing the iconic villain while another for 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises" hinted at a big character reveal to come in the sequel.

That changed with Disney's marketing for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which has been meticulously careful in revealing too much of its plot ahead of the film's December 18 release. Though there have been several trailers and over a dozen ad spots, we haven't seen Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in any of them. We don't even know what some of the main characters will look like including Andy Serkis' motion-capture Sith overlord.

Of course, that's not to say there still aren't some big surprises to yet to be seen in "Batman v Superman." Word is that we'll see a few more superheroes pop up in the film leading up to the Warner Bros.' two-part "Justice League" film. Whether or not that's too much excess for one superhero film is a conversation for another day.

In his latest comic, Batman tackles the hot-button issue of police brutality

$

Though Batman is undoubtedly a hero, the comic book character has had a testy relationship with police officers who view him as a trouble-making vigilante. Still Commissioner Gordon would always secretly rely on the "world's greatest detective" for intel, and to do the crime fighting jobs police couldn't.

But in the latest issue of Frank Miller's take on the hero, Batman is tackling the current hot-button issue of police brutality. The first issue of "Dark Knight III: The Master Race" begins with a young black man running from a police cruiser. A look of terror is in the man's eyes as he fears for his life. And just as police is about to shoot, Batman intervenes, punching the cops aiming their guns at the man.

The comic issue ends with a group of police officers beating the Caped Crusader with batons as he lies on the ground.

A blind 8-year-old uses echolocation to get around

Ruben Graham-Morris, a blind eight-year-old boy, has mastered echolocation to get around on his own. Ruben was born with Leber's congenital amaurosis, a genetic disease that left him blind from birth.

"Before echolocation, Ruben would not ever let go of my arm," Ruben's mother, Trudie Graham, said.

Trudie and her son connected with Daniel Kish, who is blind and a specialist in echolocation. He taught Ruben how to interpret sounds bouncing off nearby objects to make sense of his surroundings.

"I think the first couple of days of Daniel working with him he was still reluctant to let go of my arm," Trudie said of Ruben, "but by time we got around the airport and the train station, Ruben was off on his own."

Kish is often referred to as Batman, since the technique he teaches is similar to how bats get around. Ruben's mother said that means her son must be a batboy.

Trudie said she, along with her family, has noticed that Ruben is more confident and independent since learning echolocation.

"I like the experience of finding my way around without anybody’s help so I could go, well, I could go anywhere with it," Ruben said.

Everything Apple gets if it buys Time Warner

$

Apple is apparently considering a purchase of Time Warner, one of the largest media conglomerates in the United States.

Tim Cook

That's according to a report in the New York Post on Tuesday night, citing "sources familiar with the situation." But what would Apple get from buying Time Warner? Turns out that the answer is a ton of stuff. Like HBO! And CNN! And, uh, Batman! Well, DC Comics, anyway. And The CW! And...more! Follow us below for a tour of everything.

SEE ALSO: Apple breaks $100

HBO

This includes hit shows like "Game of Thrones,""Last Week Tonight," and "The Leftovers," but also documentary series like "The Jinx" and "Vice." It also includes important business stuff like HBO Now/Go — the paid streaming service run by HBO — and deals with Sesame Street and Jon Stewart for upcoming original programming.

Turner Broadcasting (think: CNN, TBS, etc.)

One of the largest components of the Time Warner megalith is Turner Broadcasting, which is the umbrella parent corporation of broadcast networks like CNN, TBS, TNT, and more. This would give Apple a huge, immediate footprint in media and publishing, as well as a rich content stable: CNN original programming like "Parts Unknown" and "Inside Man," a wealth of syndicated content on TBS (like America's most popular show, "The Big Bang Theory") and TNT (like "Law & Order"), and a massive kids library of Hanna-Barbera characters (alongside Cartoon Network).

Warner Bros.

How's "Harry Potter" and "Batman" and "Superman" and "Lego" and...well, the list goes on. Warner Bros. owns a huge number of important properties, and is itself an umbrella corporation for several major subsidiaries (like New Line Cinema, and Castle Rock Entertainment and DC Comics). Warner Bros. is a powerhouse and one of the most valuable pieces of Time Warner, to say nothing of the nearly 100 years of history in film and television it brings with it.

Here is every actor who has ever played the Joker

Jared Leto has big shoes to fill this summer. Big, clown shoes.

Leto will play the latest incarnation of the Joker in this summer's adaptation of "Suicide Squad." Upon his casting, Leto was immediately compared to the likes of the late Heath Ledger, who was posthumously awarded an Oscar for his performance in the role in 2008's "The Dark Knight."

Leto's performance won't only be compared to Ledger, but to every actor who has taken on the role.

Keep reading to find out more about the dozen performances Leto has to live up to later this year.

Cesar Romero was the first actor to play the icon onscreen when he took on the role in the original "Batman" series in 1966.

Cesar Romero, known in his day as the "Latin from Manhattan," was a skilled actor and dancer.

Romero had a full career before his role as Joker in the original 1966 series with Adam West as Batman and Eartha Kitt as Catwoman. In the A&E documentary series "Biography," West said that Romero "brought an enormous amount of energy to the role...I don't know how he did it." In the same special, Romero said his role as Joker was easy, "When [you] get in an outfit like that...you fall right into it."

Jack Nicholson played the first theatrical iteration of the Clown Prince of Crime in 1989's "Batman."

Jack Nicholson played Joker in Tim Burton's 1989 take on the film. Nicholson told MTV he took the role partly because of his belief in Burton's vision of Batman. "Tim Burton’s a genius. He had the right take on it. That’s why I did the movie," he said. "I did the movie based on a single conversation with him. We both come from the cartoon world originally. We had similar ideas."

Mark Hamill became the voice of the Joker for the DC Animated Universe starting in 1992.

Hamill has been playing the Joker the longest of all the actors here.

His version of the Joker first appeared in the Emmy award-winning "Batman the Animated Series.""BTAS" was the first of many shows in the DC Animated Universe, which all shared the same canon and voice actors. Hamill would go on to appear in adaptations of Superman, the Justice League, and Static Shock as well. He appeared in animated films and video games as well.

After announcing his "retirement" of the character in 2011, he's slated to reprise the role in a 2017 adaptation of Batman's iconic "The Killing Joke" story, marking 25 years as the character.

The newest ‘Batman’ game is no longer coming to Mac or Linux, and customers are livid

The third and final game in the critically-acclaimed “Batman: Arkham” series will not release to computers running OS X or Linux as intended.

batman arkham knight

Warner Bros, the publisher for Rocksteady’s “Batman: Arkham Knight,” has officially canceled those two ports of the game, acknowledging the move in a brief post on Steam.

“We are very sorry to confirm that ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ will no longer be coming to Mac and Linux,” Warner said. “If you have pre-ordered Batman: Arkham Knight for Mac or Linux, please apply for a refund via Steam.”

This is disappointing news, but it's not terribly surprising. Last year’s release of “Batman: Arkham Knight” for PC was a total disaster— it was so riddled with issues that Warner had to pull the game for sale, fixing some major underlying issues before reinstating the game in the Steam store.

Even with those changes, Eurogamer ran tests on “Arkham Knight” for PC and found that the patches hardly helped the major underlying issues that affected performance and gameplay.

But now that the “Arkham Knight” ports for Linux and Mac are officially canned, customers are sharing their thoughts on Steam’s forums — and they’re not very positive.

We’ve reached out to Warner and Rocksteady to learn more about why the Mac and Linux ports for “Arkham Knight” were canceled. We’ll update the story if we hear back.

If you were hoping for a Mac or Linux port of "Arkham Knight," you can still play the full version of the game, as well as its downloadable content, on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Mash-up toys are starting to become quite popular. Last year, Hasbro unveiled a Chewbacca Furby, cleverly named Furbacca, and recently Hot Wheels has been rolling out "Star Wars" mash-up vehicles.

Last year, at San Diego Comic-Con, I came across a strange combination when I was handed a button featuring a Thomas the Tank Engine character designed as Batman.

What did it mean?

Fisher-Price started rolling out a few of the trains last year with basic fan favorites like Batman, Superman, and the Joker under a line called Thomas & Friends MINIS.

"You don’t have to dig too deep to find that kids (and adult fans) create their own narratives on YouTube and through social media on a daily basis; and this often involves mixing up Thomas’ world with others as well.  So it’s already being done, and consumers have already given us permission to do so," Michael Pisors, director of global brand marketing for the Thomas & Friends toy team at Fisher-Price, explained in an email to Tech Insider.

The toys were a hit. Walmart sold over 5 million of the mini-collectibles alone. So this year, Fisher-Price is rolling out over 35 new DC Super Friends mash-ups which will begin to be released in February. They'll be in Walmart for the first half of the year before expanding to other retailers.

Why fans had to wait 7 years to see one of the darkest 'Batman' stories get turned into a movie

$

Later this year, DC Entertainment will release an animated movie based on one of the darkest Batman storylines — 1988's graphic novel, "The Killing Joke.

the killing joke

If you're a Batman fan, the announcement last July was a big deal.

Artist Bruce Timm, one of the minds behind the beloved and Emmy-winning "Batman: The Animated Series"— the version of the Bat most millennials grew up with — will be back as an executive producer, and he won't be alone. The film will also reunite Batman and Joker voice actors Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill (yes, that Mark Hamill).

Joker - Mark Hamill

The story itself depicts the Joker abuse Barbara Gordon/Batgirl before leaving her paralyzed.

Earlier this week, film site /film spotted an Instagram from DC animator Phil Bourassa, which has since been deleted, sharing a sketch of how the Joker will look in the adaptation. Bourassa revealed he first started work on the project back in 2009. However, the project was scrapped after the poor box-office performance of R-rated superhero film "The Watchmen."

Here's a screenshot we captured of the Instagram:

joker killing joker instagram

"In 2009, I started working on an animated adaptation of The Killing Joke under the supervision of legendary Animation artist Bruce Timm," writes Bourassa. "Two weeks into the project we were told to stop development because Watchmen had underperformed at the box office and WB had seemingly lost faith in R rated superhero movies."

"Happy to say that you guys are gonna finally get your animated Killing Joke adaptation in 2016," he continues. "Apparently enough money has been made from superhero movies and adaptations of comics of every stripe that it now transcends the previously assumed limitations of the genre. It's a good time to be a comic geek!"

"Watchmen," released in 2009, grossed $185 million worldwide. Bourassa's reference to R-rated superhero movies comes on the heels of Fox's R-rated "Deadpool" movie grossing nearly $500 million worldwide since its February 12 release.

Since then, the MPAA announced an R rating for an extended edition of "Batman v Superman." It looks like we're going to start seeing more and more mature comic adaptations. So, yes, it is an exciting time to "be a comic geek."

The animated "Killing Joke" adaptation is set to debut at San Diego Comic-Con in July and should be released on digital and Blu-ray later this year.
